Rich Sommers is the founder of Sommers Financial, specializing in disability insurance, income protection, and financial strategies for physicians, medical residents, fellows, business owners, and other professionals.

With a strong focus on protecting the income his clients work so hard to earn, Rich helps individuals navigate important financial decisions with confidence. He works closely with physicians throughout their careers, from residency and fellowship training to becoming established attending physicians, helping them understand their options, evaluate existing coverage, and develop strategies that evolve alongside their professional and personal goals.

A passionate advocate for financial education, Rich regularly provides disability insurance presentations to medical residency and fellowship programs, helping physicians understand the importance of protecting their most valuable financial asset: their ability to earn an income. His philosophy is simple: educate first, provide personalized guidance, and build lasting relationships based on trust.

Rich is a member of the International DI Society (IDIS) and was selected as the recipient of the 2026 Bob Herum Education Scholarship, recognizing his commitment to professional development and education in disability insurance.

Beyond his professional life, Rich enjoys hockey, golf, and spending quality time with family and friends. He is also a longtime supporter and advocate of MI-UCP, a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities achieve greater independence, inclusion, and opportunity.

Combining his passion for hockey with his commitment to giving back, Rich proudly participates in the annual MI-UCP Pucksters vs. Detroit Red Wings Alumni Game, helping raise awareness and support for an organization whose mission closely aligns with his belief in protecting people's independence and quality of life.
